Two old wrinklies with two west highland terriers Traveling New Zealand

A ‘POP’ near Greytown

Afternoon campers……….we are currently staying at a POP (Park over Property) called Bush House in a field currently populated by ourselves, Mac & Rose and a beautiful native falcon who is checking the woodpile for mice.

We went back to Upper Hutt yesterday; having decided to visit family who we missed over the ANZAC weekend as they were visiting Christchurch at the time. Enjoyed an evening of GOOD food, wine/beer and shared great memories!!  Many thanks Murray and Bernie…..let’s do it again SOON!! We moved on this morning tossing a coin between Ocean Beach and Greytown and the town won…..mainly because the weather did not look great at the time.

We stopped at the top of the Rimutakas to admire the view but the cloud had dropped so alas no photos of the spectacular hills. There is a great monument to the WW1 soldiers who marched from Featherston over the hills 3 days/two nights to reach Wellington before being shipped overseas. I felt like it was a fitting end to my pilgrimage of all things relating to my grandfather and the photos they have on the board certainly illustrated the huge contingent who marched.

We travelled through Greytown and then decided to move on and visit Martinborough.  We have been seeing signs stating we are on the classic wine trail and this is the first time we have seen evidence of vineyards. I popped for a wine tasting (Rod was going to shower as he couldn’t drink/drive).

I loved the quaintness of Martinborough although it is not RV friendly due to no freedom camping or POPS in this area. There is a campground but I find myself reluctant to suggest we stay in them due to the inflated fees they charge; there is usually a vehicle fee, a per person fee, charges for laundry, showers etc. and sometimes a dumping fee for WSS (water/shit station).

So as I said at the beginning we are in this lovely field and the sun is shining!! I have spent some time tossing the ball for Mac while Rose snoozed in the sun and Rod did some computer work……….it is almost wine o’clock lol so signing off for now!!
